Modes of Operation

The Averest tools can be used in two different modes: client-server and standalone mode. In client-server mode, the source files are kept on your local machine, but the tasks to process these files are executed on our server. Hence, there is no need to install any binaries on your machine. It suffices to install the Eclipse plugin in order to compile, verify, and synthesize Quartz programs. The plugin can be used on all operating systems that are supported by Eclipse. Client-Server mode is the easiest way to install and work with Averest. However, if you want to process large files, it might be more efficient to use the tools in standalone mode.

Client-Server Mode

To install the Eclipse plugin for Averest, you need the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 and Eclipse 3.2. Please see the separate installation instructions on how to install and work with the Averest plugin.

Standalone Mode

At the moment, we can only offer (statically linked) binaries for Linux (i586). If you want to run the tools on another platform than Linux, please contact us. Note that in since version 1.7, the documentation and the examples are now included in the distribution.
